This essay was originally published at In Mala Fide on August 19, 2009. Brief thoughts on Nidal Hasan

I’ve kept my mouth shut on the Fort Hood shootings, largely because I didn’t have much to say on this incident. I’d rather not be known as the Mark Ames of the Roissysphere, blaming every rage killing on sexual deprivation as opposed to economic deprivation. But yesterday, Professor Hale posted on Hasan’s love life, or more appropriately, the lack thereof:

We learned yesterday that MAJ Hasan, the narcissistic psycho, is also a world class loser with the ladies.

After living his entire adult life in the USA, he last year asked his Imam to help him find a “nice Moslem girl” to marry. His requirements were simple. He wanted a girl like mom who would wear head coverings all the time and go to prayers 5 times a day. He met with no success.

Dennis Mangan has also touched briefly on this:

Now, it’s been pointed out both here and elsewhere that the surplus of single men in India and China, most of whom are utterly without a realistic prospect of marriage, has at least until now not resulted in extraordinary social disruption or terrorism. So, perhaps what we have in the case of Hasan means: Islam + sexual frustration = mass murder.

Given the specific circumstances of this case, I’d say that Hasan’s sexual frustration wasn’t the primary cause of his mental illness. That said, it’d be foolish to deny it had a role in driving him to kill those innocent people. It’s like I said – we’re going to see more of this as Western civilization slides further into the abyss.

For more, see Obsidian’s post on Hasan.

  1. what i don’t understand about muslims who aren’t lucky enough to benefit from islam’s polygamy is the logic that lower-status males will be left high-and-dry when one man has several wives.

the disconnect is amazing. are muslims completely divorced from logic? i guess they are just thoroughly brainwashed into thinking they’ll partake in those 72 virgins.

  2. Chuck, you’re thoroughly divorced from what Muslims actually believe, and what Muslim society actually looks like. Polygamy is over-emphasized. There isn’t some huge surplus of sexually frustrated bachelors in the Muslim world because of it. The vast majority of Muslims practice monogamy.

The 72 virgins myth is a ridiculous explanation for Muslim violence – and simply a way to obscure the real reasons for it. Read some Michael Scheuer or Robert Pape to better understand these phenomenons rather than indulge in hackneyed anthropological analysis from your armchair.

  3.
what i don’t understand about muslims who aren’t lucky enough to benefit from islam’s polygamy is the logic that lower-status males will be left high-and-dry when one man has several wives
Islam is an open system. You can convert yourself a wife from the other people.

  4. Of course just a few years ago when babe magnets Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, and Richard Ramirez were the big names in mass murder, one would have thought the ability of Alpha males to pull women was the cause of decline of Western Civ. Now it is just the opposite. Perhaps the answer lies somewhere between these two simplistic extremes?

  5. It makes sense when you consider the fact that a happily married Muslim man has little reason to consider jihad. Jihad is dangerous and usually leads to death. Why would a man with a fairly steady supply of sex, a home, etc. want to screw with that? Only the true believers would do that.

  6. Hasan has the additional problem in that he has had his s=expectation of female beauty informed by a life in the USA and now wants to find such a woman as he thinks he deserves, who is also a devout moslem. This is a near-null solution set. In my travels in the middle east, I have come to the inescapable conclusion that Middle Eastern women are fugly. I am constantly astonished that they manage to breed at all. It is no wonder that Arab men prefer Western women, when they can get them.

There is also a strong connection between suicidal jihad and a lifetime of abuse, humiliation and being on the receiving end of bullying. Typical Gamma male behaviors. Terrorist recruiters know to look for young males of that type to be the kind of guys who will strap on on for Allah. They stroke them with words about how important they are and that their lifetime of abuse is the fault of (insert target). The results are predictable.

  7. Middle Eastern women are not ugly, you imbecile. Olive skin, dark manes of silky hair, big almond shaped eyes, hippy and busty. I don’t know where you were traveling.

In any case, all this stuff about pent up sexual frustration is mere conjecture. The man visited strip clubs and paid for lap dances. Maybe he paid for hookers too.

But really, his political motivations speak for themselves, don’t they? It seems like he found himself – from his point of view – an intractable moral conundrum. He likely viewed himself as the enemy within – and slowly went crazy with the guilt of it all.

  8. “It makes sense when you consider the fact that a happily married Muslim man has little reason to consider jihad.”

But they do consider it. All the time.

Middle Eastern women are better off covered up, generally speaking.

  9. he was just irked he had to man up and pay for that military funded education he’d just received. it’s a contract, clown. man up and do the service you agreed to do. whiner, beta, took the beta way out.

  10. Nathan:

“Read some Michael Scheuer or Robert Pape to better understand these phenomenons rather than indulge in hackneyed anthropological analysis from your armchair.”

This is one of those subjects that I care very little to read about. I know enough about Islam to draw true-to-life conclusions about the nature of the religion. Yeah, Islam is “peaceful” right, except for some reason it tends to produce the most terrorism.

  11. That you may stumble upon the right conclusion by accident doesn’t mean that the way your reached those conclusions are in any way correct (polygamy, 72 virgins. Come on). If something is worth talking about endlessly, it should at least be done honestly looking at the data available rather than what we *think* we know based on second or third hand rumours.

These terrorists often leave very detailed letters or video messages about why they commit the violence they do, but rather than take them at their word, we’re happy to talk about pent up sexual frustration and try our hand at theology for dummies. You can’t solve a problem if you don’t take the primary evidence seriously.

  12. “Read some Michael Scheuer or Robert Pape to better understand these phenomenons rather than indulge in hackneyed anthropological analysis from your armchair…These terrorists often leave very detailed letters or video messages about why they commit the violence they do, but rather than take them at their word, we’re happy to talk about pent up sexual frustration and try our hand at theology for dummies. You can’t solve a problem if you don’t take the primary evidence seriously.”

Nathan, Scheuer and Pape, are not wrong to focus on the foreign policy dimension that fuels jihadists. I doubt, however, that we should “take them at their word” and think that if we did what they said, their animus against the West would cease. In the past, Muslims have not waged jihad due to injuries suffered by Western nations. Tell me, when had America occupied the Barbary states or waged a war against Islam? Of course, America had done no such thing, nor had they given the Barbary states any casus belli to commence hostilities. Instead, the explanation proffered was that America, being a nation of infidels, had to either pay tribute–akin to the jizya–or suffer war. It was as simple as that. So, although I agree that American forces ought to vacate the peninsula and extricate themselves from Middle Eastern intervention, do not expect any sudden amity to arise between Dar el Islam and Dar el Harb.

  13. Nathan:

People develop all sorts of rationalities when they decide to commit atrocities. Those rationalities and the attitudes and beliefs that influence them are a symptom of the underlying culture.

These guys’ pent up animosity is being used against them by men with higher status. That the jihadists, the ones who commit themselves to these acts, dont’ realize this it is because Islam has come a long way since inventing the concept of 0 (zero). After doing that, they ceased using logic in shaping their worldview. Muslims are the most illogical group on the face of the planet. The individuals practicing it are brainwashed to a greater extent than people of any other dogmas. Guys like bin Laden gather up the collective animosity – animosity aimed at the patriarchy and socialistic societies of Muslim countries – mix a bit of religion in with it, telling them who the enemy is and what extreme measures they must undertake to deal with that enemy, and flip the script on the young men. It has permeated their culture.

  14. Nathan:

These terrorists often leave very detailed letters or video messages about why they commit the violence they do, but rather than take them at their word, we’re happy to talk about pent up sexual frustration and try our hand at theology for dummies.

Of course we don’t take radical Muslims at their word – their religion informs them to lie to non-Muslims!

Let me guess, you’re one of those leftist/libertarian/paleoconservative autists who thinks that the ONLY reason that radical Islamists wage war on the U.S. is because of our EVIL IMPERIALIST WAYS. Cry me a fucking river.

    Pons Seclorum:

Great breakdown. The “blame America” crowd doesn’t have a stump to stand on.

  15. WTF? He was a doctor in America – how could he not manage to arrange a marriage with a nice Paki girl? His money alone should have guaranteed that, regardless of his personality.

  16. I don’t understand. American soldiers are legitimate targets of war in Afghanistan and Iraq, but they are “innocent victims” in Texas.

  17. “These terrorists often leave very detailed letters or video messages about why they commit the violence they do, but rather than take them at their word, we’re happy to talk about pent up sexual frustration and try our hand at theology for dummies.”

Just because they leave detailed explanations does not mean they really understand what they are talking about or what drives them. Like most indoctrinated zombies, their “detailed explanations” simply regurgitate the anti-western hate, love of motherhood and goat pie, and following in the way of the martyr for their cause (whatever that might be).

Just like in America, young people who are particularly vulnerable make good candidates for cult membership. Young urban males make good candidates for gang membership. They each will give you detailed explanations for their behaviors too. And it will be worth zero.

  18. <<>>

Talk about setting up a strawman.

So you must be one of those neocon autists who think that our foreign policy has NOTHING to do with attacks on us, cry me a fucking river.

The US is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis in an illegal war based on lies (found those WMDs yet?) and part of the blame goes to US citizens who celebrated the death & destruction of Iraqis, helped the warmachine through their taxes, justified torture, reelected the neocon retard Bush for a second term even after his lies about Iraq became clear.

Everytime an American murderer (oops i mean the “patriotic” soldier) kills an Iraqi he is creating 10 more enemies because unlike our pathetic society where family means nothing the Arabs still retain the concepts of blood, honor & venegeance which were also strongly followed in Southern Italy, Corsica & the rest of the Mediterranean.

“We all know how Americans would react to the accidental death of a loved one. They’d be on the phone to a lawyer, wanting to sue and put a dollar figure on the death of the loved one. But early in the war, when an American officer showed up at the door of an Iraqi family whose son had been killed by mistake and asked the father what compensation he wanted, the Iraqi replied, “Ten dead Americans.”

  19. Hasan did snap because he could not get a woman. He was probably rejected by women all his life. This is what happens. We are going to see alot more of these shootings because in this age of feminism, american women (even the fat ugly ones) believe that just because they have a hole between their legs, they are somehow empowered to be condescending, self centered bitches.. Especially to “nice” men who are educated and are productive to society. Yet these same women spread their legs for any abusive criminal, idiot or jerk who will have them, and us employed tax payers have to foot the bill of raising their kids through welfare. Notice the recent trend in mass shootings where the shooters were intelligent, educated men with jobs. He probably felt cheated by society because he did what society told him to do, go to school, become a doctor, and you will get rewarded by being able to attract a woman who wants stability and a family. In the years before feminism this was the unspoken rule. His only reward was to be forced to go against his religion/beliefs by this feminized society who lied to him. Big surprise that he snapped!
